Cassandra Dias, an artist based in Southern California, embarked on her embroidery journey in January 2020. In an interview with DeMilked, she shares how she stumbled upon her forgotten stash of vintage DMC embroidery floss, tucked away in a closet for years. Motivated by a desire to embellish her son’s denim jacket with a small design, Cassandra dusted off her supplies. However, with the onset of the Covid pandemic and subsequent closures, embroidery soon became more than just a casual project for her. It became a therapeutic and captivating creative outlet, captivating her with its mindful stitching process.
Recently, Cassandra has discovered a new wellspring of inspiration for her embroidered creations: antique oil paintings. Delving into this realm, she explains that once she discovers a captivating piece from the world of antique oil paintings, she proceeds to sketch a rough outline on her fabric. She then meticulously gathers the appropriate colors and dives into the art of stitching, skillfully bringing the essence of the painting to life.
